Tomic triumphs in Burnie!

Well, he's won through to the third round, and a tasty match up with Peter Luczak. Outside of the tennis world I doubt many people had heard of Bernard Tomic before his exploits in the recent Australian Open, which have earned him a much higher profile and the possibly weighty tag of 'future star'.

Although I don't do a great deal of it myself at present, I love a lot of sport photography, usually the images that capture emotion and drama, or focus on the abstract details in an event. At tennis events the shot with the event name in it is a bit of staple, I wonder; do Bernard's mates call him Bernie?

The tennis is on here at Burnie, and with the new blue resurfacing of the courts it even looks a bit like the Australian Open!



I've no idea who this player is, I just grabbed a few shots on my way past yesterday. The standard of play looks very high to my untrained eyes, they were certainly hitting the balls very hard! Given these are players hoping to break into the top sphere of the professional tour it makes you realise how good the likes of Nadal, Williams et al really are. Seeing sport live does really give you a better appreciation of the speed, power and skills being showcased.
